TBT: Compelled 2008 Poetry Performance

On May 3, 2008 I performed at Compelled 2008…a AIDS benefit at Convocation Hall. One of the largest crowds I’d ever spoken in front of…I performed a poem called Mother&Son.

Fantastic acts…live music, an actress did a cool monologue. This was an immense privilege.

Oh and after I performance I had all this restless energy and I left backstage and went wandering. Eventually I found myself in the bathroom facing a urinal. The guy who saddled up to the urinal next to me literally did a double take: “Hey! You’re poem guy!”

“Umm, yeah: Sammy.”
“That poem…I’m not a poem guy but that poem was special. I liked it.”

Always nice to meet fans…I think. I zipped up and went to wash my hands.
